Snapchat has been a hugely popular place for people to connect with their friends for years now, allowing people to send each other disappearing pictures, videos, and direct messages, as well as post to their stories.
When you talk to someone on the platform often enough, you might see an emoji next to their name, like a heart, that tells you something about your friendship on the app (for example, you might be someone’s “best friend” on the platform).
You might have seen an hourglass appear next to a friend’s name on Snapchat, but what does it mean? What you need to know is listed below. So let us tell.
What Does An Hourglass Means On Snapchat?
Snapchat will show an hourglass emoji next to the fire emoji to tell you that your 24-hour Snapstreak window is ending.
When you see this emoji, your streak will end if you don’t act fast enough. But do you have much time?
When it’s been 20 hours since your last Snapstreak trade, the hourglass icon will appear on the timer. It means you and your friend have about four hours to keep the run going before it ends.
If you want to get rid of the hourglass emoji, you can send a snap immediately or let your streak run out.
What Is a Snapstreak?
Before learning more about the hourglass emoji, you must know how Snapstreaks work.
You start a Snap streak when you send at least one snap to the same person for at least three days in a row. If that happens, a fire emoji will be next to that user’s name.
It would help if you swapped snaps at least once every 24 hours to keep the run going. Remember that both of you have to send a snap for the run to keep going. It is a fun way to keep people returning to the app daily.
You will also see the number of days your streak has been going on next to the fire emoji. If you don’t send each other a snap for 24 hours, the run will end, and the fire emoji will go away.
What Is the 100 Icon Next to a Snapstreak?
If you see a “100” next to someone’s profile, you’ve sent snaps to that person for a hundred days. Snapchat will give you a ‘100’ emoji to celebrate your Snapstreak because you have been so dedicated.
On your 101st day, the icon will go away whether you choose to keep the streak going or let it stop.
How to Maintain a Snapstreak
You have to trade snaps to keep your run going. Of course, not every way to talk on Snapchat is a “snap.”
Snaps are messages that you send by pressing the button on your camera. Pictures and videos count toward your Snapstreak, but voice chats and texts don’t.
Other activities that do not count toward the Snapstreak include:
- Snapchat Stories
- Group Chats
What to Do if Your Snapstreak Disappears?
If you disappeared from your Snapstreak, though you and your friend sent snaps, the app might have gone wrong.
If you believe your Snapstreak went away because of a mistake, you can:
- Go to the Help page for Snapchat.
- Find the “My Snapstreak Disappeared’ option.
- Fill in the information that is asked for.
After you’ve done this, you’ll have to wait a bit before Support gets back to you and helps you with your problem. Once you get a reply, Snapchat will tell you how to keep your Snap Streak going.
If you and the other person are sure you have followed all the rules for keeping the run, you can keep talking to Support and get your fire trophy back.
If you don’t see the hourglass right away, you might have up to four hours to keep the run going. So get in touch with your friend and try to swap snaps as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, streaks can be lost because of bugs in the system or because friends are too busy to keep up with their usual Snapchat activities. But if you want to keep a long streak going, you must share snaps at least once a day.
